Dr David Taylor
MBBS / FRACS / CSSANZ
Dr David Taylor is a specialist Colorectal Surgeon operating in Brisbane, with a particular interest in laparoscopic and complex colorectal surgery.
He practises across a broad range of surgical and oncologic conditions, including Inflammatory Bowel Disease, benign colorectal pathology (e.g. Diverticular Disease), defecatory and incontinence disorders, anorectal pathology and locally advanced or recurrent pelvic malignancy requiring pelvic exenteration.
Dr Taylor achieved his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at the University of Queensland and completed his fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in General Surgery.
He subsequently completed his colorectal subspecialty training with the Colorectal Surgeons Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ) and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Training Board in Colon and Rectal Surgery program.
Appointed to the Royal Brisbane Colorectal Unit in 2012, he established a dedicated pelvic exenteration service, supporting patients from throughout Queensland.
Dr Taylor is also a senior lecturer at the University of Queensland, a member of the Queensland Training Committee of the Board in General Surgery of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and General Surgeons Australia and a member of the Colorectal Subcommittee of the Queensland Cancer Control Analysis Team.
He currently practises privately out of the Wesley Hospital.

Dr Amanda Nikolic
MBBS / PGrad Dip Anat / Ma Surg / FRACS / CSSANZ
Dr Amanda Nikolic is a Specialist General and Colorectal Surgeon dedicated to providing exceptional care to her patients.
Dr Nikolic completed her medical degree with distinction before completing a fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in General Surgery. She undertook advanced colorectal surgical training through the Australian and New Zealand Training Board in Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship Program (ANZTBCRS), gaining comprehensive experience in open, laparoscopic, and general colorectal surgery.
Beyond her clinical practice, Dr Nikolic is passionate about medical education and leadership. She has held teaching roles as a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Otago and postgraduate anatomy tutor at Melbourne University. She is also the creator and host of the widely acclaimed surgical education podcast, First Incision, aimed at supporting surgical trainees preparing for fellowship exams.
Dr Nikolic has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications on colorectal surgery and surgical education. She has received prestigious awards, including the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons’ John Corboy Medal for outstanding leadership and service. Her current research interests focus on improving surgical outcomes through standardization of care and optimizing operative techniques.
Her practice philosophy emphasizes patient-centred care, ensuring each patient feels informed, supported, and empowered throughout their surgical journey. Dr Nikolic is known for her approachable nature, clear communication, and commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for her patients.
Outside of clinical practice, Dr Nikolic serves as a Captain in the Australian Army Reserves, where she continues to develop her trauma surgery skills and contribute to medical training within the Australian Defence Force. She is an avid trail runner and Ironman triathlete.
Dr Nikolic welcomes both new and returning patients for consultations regarding general and colorectal surgical concerns and is committed to delivering the highest standard of care with compassion and expertise.
Practice Nurse – Sarah
Sarah is our practice nurse.
She completed her training in Scotland and has over 15 years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
Since 2009, she has worked specifically with colorectal patients.
Sarah will assist you with any enquiries about managing your condition and will help explain any pre-/postoperative instructions and care you require.
Collaborations
The practice collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams such as physiotherapists, dieticians, wound and stomal therapists, radiologists and many more to ensure patients receive safe and comprehensive care. Above all, the staff understand the sensitive nature of colorectal conditions and provide a compassionate, caring and supportive environment for patients and their families.
